World Wetlands Day is a global awareness-raising campaign that highlights the exceptional importance of these biodiversity-rich and productive ecosystems.
Every 2 February, the campaign calls on nations — all of them, everywhere — to protect the wetlands of our planet. This year’s campaign is focused on the theme “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”. It underlines the urgency of bold action to protect these natural habitats for the wellbeing of all people — so that future generations can continue to benefit from everything wetlands provide.
Ramsar sites in Bulgaria:
Bulgaria has 11 sites protected under the Ramsar Convention. These areas are of exceptional importance for biodiversity conservation and for the preservation of important ecosystem services:
- Atanasovsko Lake
- Belene (Belenski Ostrovi Complex)
- Durankulak Complex
- Vaya Lake
- Shablenski Ezera Complex
- Orsoya Fish Ponds
- Ropotamo
- Srebarna
- Pomoriysko Lake
- Karakuz Complex
- Poda
Drawing Competition “Protecting the Wetlands of Burgas”
On the occasion of World Wetlands Day, we are organising a drawing competition for children from Burgas and the region (grades 1–3). Here is how to take part:
Terms of Participation and Competition Rules:
- Theme: “Protecting the Wetlands of Burgas”
- Participants: Children from grades 1 to 3 from Burgas and the region
- Deadline for submitting entries: 05.02.2025
How to Apply:
Competition entries must be sent:
- By photo/scan to the email: info@biodiversity.foundation
- Or in person at the Foundation’s Central Office at:
Burgas, 1 Ivan Vazov Street, floor 2, office 5
Required Documents:
Each drawing must be accompanied by:
- Name, city, grade and school of the participant
- Phone number/email of the parent/guardian
- A completed and signed personal data processing consent declaration. The declaration can be downloaded here: Personal data declaration.docx
Voting:
The entries will be published on our Facebook page, where voting will continue until 14:00 on 09.02.2025.
Everyone can support their favourite drawing with a like!
Announcement of Results:
The winners’ ranking will be announced on 09.02.2025 after 14:00.
The results will be published on the website and on the Foundation’s social media.
Prizes:
There will be prizes for the three entries with the most likes, as well as certificates of participation for all participants!
